Recent guest, Michael Dial, says that he would have died if it weren’t for the care he’s received over the years at UNC Hospital. Hailing from rural Pfafftown, North Carolina, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer seven years ago. Following a successful whipple surgery, he remained cancer free for several years.

A few years ago, the cancer returned in the form of small cell carcinoma in Michael’s lungs. When additional spots were detected later on, he stayed with us again, this time receiving several weeks of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. He’ll return to Family House for additional follow-up appointments with his oncologist to see if he qualifies for immunotherapy.

Michael shared, “The people I’ve interacted with (at Family House) have inspired me to be more patient and a more giving person. When I thought I was dying, the people here are living proof of God’s grace.” He’s also enjoyed speaking with the many volunteers and meal providers, sharing that they have kept him “motivated and more aware.”

We wish Michael the absolute best as he continues a long medical journey, surrounded by the goodness of so many kind, loving and caring folks.
