Originally from Finland, Anne Zeikel has called North Carolina home since 2007. Before settling here, she and her husband, Jeremy, lived in Europe and traveled the world together. Last year, Anne lost Jeremy to cancer.
This spring, Anne was looking for something to fill her days—even keeping up with her golden retriever puppy wasn’t quite enough. After seeing a social media post about volunteer opportunities at SECU Family House, she attended an event and began volunteering the very next day. She immediately felt at home in the Family House community.
Whether she’s helping in the kitchen or folding laundry, Anne enjoys staying busy and lending a hand. Her own experience with loss gives her a personal understanding of the challenges patients and their loved ones face. Through volunteering, she hopes to make their days a little easier.
