When we first met Jordan in the kitchen one morning, we were initially attracted to the babbling sounds of his 8-month-old daughter, Vivian, who along with her dad, and grandfather, Bill, were having breakfast before heading to the hospital for the day’s appointments.

Making the nearly 8-hour drive to Chapel Hill from Nashville, Tennessee, Jordan, Vivian and Bill were staying here for a few weeks while Jordan’s wife, Jaime, was undergoing treatment at UNC’s Perinatal Psychiatry Inpatient Unit (P.P.I.) for post-partum depression – a condition that affects 1 in 8 women after childbirth. UNC’s program includes extended infant visits in the hospital with the mother. Prior to coming to Chapel Hill, she had spent weeks hospitalized in Nashville before the official diagnosis was finally made.

Jordan shared, “ I don’t have to worry about a lot of things while staying here. We feel safe and we’re able to accommodate my wife’s schedule. Vivian can also keep to a routine and thrive.” He also told us that it’s made a “big difference” for his wife to have daily visits at the hospital with Vivian and to have his dad, who flew up from Florida, be here to give him a few breaks so he could also work remotely at his IT engineering job.

We wish Jaime and her family the absolute best as she continues her journey.
