Guest Spotlight - Roy Wiltshire

Roy Wiltshire has been staying with us on and off for the past few months. Diagnosed with bladder cancer five years ago, Roy Wiltshire has been receiving radiation and, most recently, chemotherapy treatments at UNC Hospitals. Without Family House, he would have to make the nearly two-hour trek from Pikeville, NC, for each appointment.
Initially diagnosed at UNC Health in Wayne County, Roy’s current treatments appear to be shrinking the tumor. He’ll be returning to Chapel Hill in a couple of months for follow-up appointments with Drs. Fahey and Westerman.
When we first met Roy, without being asked, he wanted us to know what staying at Family House meant to him. “If you need a place to stay, you couldn’t ask for a better place to stay. The volunteers are fantastic. The staff is very helpful. I can’t thank everyone enough. Having cancer puts life in perspective. I’m thankful that I’ve also had five (more) years with my grandkids and wife. I keep my head up, and I’ve made my peace.”
We wish Roy all the best as he navigates his cancer journey.
