Guest Spotlight — Carleen Joyner

Meet Family House guest, Carleen Joyner. Diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer that had spread to other parts of her body, she was staying here while undergoing radiation treatments for bone cancer.

Hailing from Fayetteville, North Carolina, this was Carleen’s fourth stay at our Hospitality House. Not one to sit still, she reached out to her community and got enough supplies to make no less than 200 toiletry bags for our guests.  She also made several posts on Amazon, asking for donations from our Wish List.  Her posts were read, resulting in our pantry being filled with much needed items, including a new set of pots and pans.  Carleen’s vibrant and get-it-done attitude has no boundaries.

Carleen shared that “Doing stuff here for Family House brought her out of depression. Everyone wants to give and Family House has given me the mental strength to keep going and get out of my chair. Staying here is about giving back.”

While Carleen also regularly posts “thank yous” on-line for the many donations we’ve received, she is still “shocked that everyone wants to give.”  Recently she received $20 from a military friend’s son to purchase items for us.

We thank Carleen for all that she’s done for us and wish her only the best as she continues her long cancer journey.
