Engage Individually
There are many ways to support Family House and make a difference in the lives of the guests staying here. Below are some of our ongoing needs for individual volunteers.
Available Roles
It may sound simple, but this role is truly the heartbeat of our House.
Each week, volunteers gather to fold the fresh linens that help make our 75 guest rooms feel clean, comfortable, and like home. With all laundry done in-house, there is always a need for helping hands – and it is a wonderful way to connect with others while making an immediate, tangible difference for the families we serve.
Be the welcoming face of SECU Family House.
Front Desk volunteers play a vital role in supporting our House Managers and creating a warm, supportive experience for every guest who walks through our doors.
From greeting families and assisting with check-in and check-out, to answering phones and helping guests navigate their stay, this role is perfect for those who enjoy meaningful interaction and being part of the daily rhythm of the House.
Requirements:
Front Desk volunteers must be 18 years or older.
A 6-month commitment to a regular schedule is required.
Training is provided to ensure you feel confident and supported.
Help keep the heart of our home running smoothly.
Kitchen Attendants play an essential behind-the-scenes role by keeping our shared kitchens clean, organized, and ready for the next meal.
Tasks include loading and unloading dishwashers, wiping down tables, restocking supplies, and organizing refrigerators and freezers. It’s a hands-on role that ensures our families always have a welcoming, functional space to gather and nourish themselves.
There’s nothing like a homemade treat to lift someone’s spirits.
Our “Bake from the Heart” volunteers provide just that – comfort, warmth, and a little taste of home during a difficult time.
You can join us in our kitchen on Saturdays from 1:00-3:00PM for a fun, social baking experience, or bake from the comfort of your own home and drop off your goodies at your convenience. Either way, your kindness is felt in every bite.
Bring joy, creativity, and a welcome escape to our guests.
Our evenings come alive thanks to volunteers who share their talents – whether through music, crafts, or interactive activities.
From piano performances to painting nights, these moments offer families a chance to relax, connect, and simply enjoy being together. If you have a talent or passion you would love to share, we would love to help you bring it to life here.
Be part of something big – and meaningful.
Our signature events are essential to supporting SECU Family House, and they come to life thanks to dedicated volunteer committee members who help plan, organize, and execute each one.
Opportunities include:
- Fall Gala
- Spring Golf Tournament
- Volunteer Appreciation Event
- Chapel Hill Biscuit Festival
This is a great fit for those who enjoy teamwork, creativity, and making a lasting impact behind the scenes of memorable community events.
